My Fear is a Snake

Regina Jade

My fear does not send me flying on racing feet.

My fear does not ready me for battle with iron fists.

When a stranger approaches from behind

In the darkness of a deserted parking lot

My fear is a snake

That winds itself about my spine

Coils around my neck like a lover

And sinks its paralyzing fangs deep inside

Until

I

Can’t

Move.

My fear does not send me flying on racing feet.

My fear does not ready me for battle with iron fists.

When a stranger approaches from behind

In the darkness of a deserted parking lot

My fear is a snake

That winds itself about my spine

Coils around my neck like a lover

And sinks its paralyzing fangs deep inside

Until

I

Can’t

Move.
